Group Rides
Description of Barrie Cycling Club Group Rides
BCC hosts a variety of road rides for people of different riding abilities and fitness levels.
“Average pace” is the average of the variety of different riding speeds that occur during each of the distance outlined. This includes slowly going through town, stopping at stop signs, slowing at corners, as well as much higher paces along the flats and even higher speed going down hills. It is better to first try a slower paced group level then gradually move up when you are confident you can keep pace with the next group. Safety, as well as having fun on a bike, is the priority of the BCC.
An adult (parent, guardian, sponsor) must be on the same group ride to supervise and be responsible for any youth under the age of 16.

No group riding experience needed. This is the place to learn how to ride in a group or just come out and enjoy a social recovery ride . A road bike, in good working condition, is recommended. A helmet and a rear bike light is required. 6:30 pm start. Average pace 20- 24 km/h
Starting off at about 30 km and gradually building mileage throughout the summer.
Thursday Morning “Sunrise Group Ride” - Johnson’s Beach Parking Lot starting point
Group riding experience needed. Please first go to the Wednesday evening “Learn to Group Ride” nights to get experience group riding, even if you are a strong bike rider.
6:00 am start. Average pace 30-32 km/h; about 50 km depending on available daylight.
To park at Johnson’s Beach parking lot, you will need a parking pass for Barrie residents. For non-
Barrie residents, either pay (you can use Hotspot app) or park at No Frills.
We are typically back at Johnson’s Beach by 7:30-7:35 am. Average speed is 30-32ish - and that is a good solid effort considering it is uphill for the first half.
There are two ‘escape routes’ from Line 1:
-
Short: Old Barrie Road over to Line 2
-
Mid: 31/32 Side road over to Line 2
With each escape route you would take the same route back into town - this would allow a ‘catch up’ by the main pack and possibly finish as a group.
