Advocacy and BCC

The Barrie Cycling Club (BCC) supports cycling within the City of Barrie and the County of Simcoe. Beyond this, the BCC supports the Ontario Cycling Association (OCA), and Cycling Canada, to maintain, and enhance all genres of cycling in the country.

Barrie Cycling Club has teamed up with Cycle Simcoe to develop maps of the area, routes to cycle and cycling friendly businesses within the region.

BCC has helped to fund the ‘Share the Road’ signs in the County, making motorists and the public more aware of this safety initiative. BCC has traditionally supported the ‘Share the Road’ campaign over the last number of years.

BCC has hosted provincially sanctioned, OCA youth races and cyclocross races, including a provincial championship cyclocross race.

The club supports the neighbouring bike stores within the area, including Trek Bicycle Store, Bikeland, The Bike Zone and The Crank and Sprocket Bicycle Co.

The BCC also supports, through its members, Hardwood Ski and Bike and the Simcoe County Mountain Bike Club.

The BCC has also taken it upon themselves, to maintain a section of Ridge Road, a favourite of the club, cleaning it up of the trash that has accumulated throughout the winter months as a service to Oro/Medonte and its citizens and to show appreciation for their support of BCC using this road. This is through the ‘Adopt a Highway’ program, and the club is responsible for the section between Range road and Line 3.

The BCC provides to its members, several weekly rides. These rides support riders with all types of experience, from the complete novice to group riding, to the most experienced racing aficionado.

We are proud of our members, and the voice that they, as individuals, and as a club offer to better cycling within our County, our Province and the whole Country.
